Process  of Effective Writing

The discussion for this week relates to the process of effective writing.  There are many struggles one can have during the writing process.  Being able to correctly apply writing concepts, cohesion, clarity, and sources can cause certain hesitations when trying your best to effectively write.  The first question asked how I will incorporate the writing process into the completion of my assignments. There is the discussion of academic integrity.  Being completely honest by citing the work of others and not reusing old material allows one to create new thoughts and ideas.  Velliaris and Breen (2016) article states that “students are thus finding creative and technologically innovative ways to produce text. However, pressures originating in mandated curricula, limited contact hours, testing requirements, and general inertia, make it unlikely that higher education institutions will abandon summative writing tasks in the near future” (p. 566).  Being a former school teacher and center administrator I have honestly seen it all.  From the “dog ate my homework” to “I do not remember writing that”.  This in itself has allowed me to fully understand why schools and universities are pushing hard on plagiarism and academic integrity.

Secondly, how can I use this same process to help me write effectively in a professional setting?  Kotz, Cals, Tugwell, &Knottnerus (2013) article exemplifies various tips and suggestions on how to produce journal ready material that is clear and concise for readers to understand to do’s and do not’s of effective writing.  This article along with the one above and those suggested gave great insight on being able to process strong and efficient material.  It is my utmost goal to carve out more time in my daily activities to my school work.  Honestly, every single day for me is extremely hard.  I have had a struggle with trying to walk.  Getting up and going to work drains me causing such exhaustion.  But I will make sure that I use Turnitin as a means to help me ensure that I do not mistakenly cite incorrectly as that will be the only way that I did to submit anything correctly.
