Leadership and Professional Communication

Effective communication is one of the most fundamental aspects that everyone needs to become successful in various aspects of life. While working in an organization, it is important to develop excellent communications skills as it enhances interpersonal relationships with not only colleagues but also family. In health care leadership, I believe that an effective communicator will facilitate achievement of set objectives through excellent interaction with workers. Rogers (2012) mentions that leaders are expected to be effective communicators. This is because they serve a vital responsibility of providing direction or implementation of the organizational strategies. How the leader will communicate with the team members will determine the success of the operations.

As a leader in the health care system, I believe that strong communication skills will enhance the relationship with workers and clients as well. One of the great skills expected from the leader is the ability to listen from others. Effective leaders can achieve their goals through engaging their team, colleagues or customers in asking questions and receiving feedback. When a leader is ready to listen to complaints regarding the ineffective health care facilities, then it becomes easier to engage the team members in developing solutions and providing ways to implement the recommendations.

Levine (2015) explains that one cannot succeed on their own; he/she will need to communicate with others to collaborate and lead. Further, the author provides five critical principles of communication that will assist every leader in developing effective communication skills. One of the principles discussed is transparency. A leader ought to be transparent in providing information to the team members and allowing them to participate in some of the decision-making processes. As a leader within the health care system, I agree that being transparent ensures that all the members are aware of the organizational strategic plans and feel comfortable sharing their opinions regarding various issues.
