Select ONE Case Study from the list below.
Case Study #1: Coronary Artery Disease (CAD)
Eric is a 47-year-old male who has just been diagnosed with Coronary Artery Disease.
He is a construction worker and spends a great deal of time away from his wife and
three children. Eric smokes approximately 1 1⁄2 packs of cigarettes a day and enjoys
drinking a 6-pack after a long day at work.
Case Study #2: Diabetes
Hannah is a 10-year-old girl who has recently been diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes
Mellitus. She is a 4th grade student at Hendricks Elementary School. Prior to her
diagnosis, Hannah was very involved in sports and played on the girls’ volleyball team.
Her mother is concerned about how the diagnosis will affect Hannah.
Case Study #3: Hypertension (HTN)
Vicki is a 42-year-old African American woman who was diagnosed with Hypertension a
month ago. She has been married to her high school sweetheart for the past 20 years.
She is self-employed and runs a successful insurance agency. Her work requires
frequent travel and Vicki often has to eat at fast food restaurants for most of her meals.
Case Study #4: Osteoporosis
Ivy, a 60 years old Asian woman sustains an ankle fracture from a fall in a shopping
mall. After the surgery, Ivy goes to an Orthopedic surgeon for follow up, who does an
initial history and physical checkup. Ivy has an active life. She walks every day about
two miles and stays busy with household works. She has habits of drinking a few cups
of coffee and moderate amount of wine, and also, smoking. About two years ago she
was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis.
Case Study #5: Asthma Kaplan University School of Health Sciences
HS200 Assignment Directions Tammy is a 17-year-old girl who was just diagnosed with asthma. She is a cheerleader
for her high school and is very busy with social events throughout the year. Next year
Tammy will attend View University on a cheerleading scholarship. She is very excited,
but is a little nervous about living away from home. Lately she has been having trouble
controlling her asthma.
Case Study #6: Cerebrovascular Accident (CVA)
Jan is a 72-year-old woman who recently suffered a Cerebral Vascular Accident. She
suffered damage to the right side of her body and is having difficulty speaking. She is
widowed and has no children. She lives by herself in a 2nd floor apartment. Jan is
worried about how she will care for her 3 cats, Daisy, Tempo, and Ms. Kitty.
Once you have selected your case, please follow the requirements below. This
Assignment is due at the end of Unit 6.
Requirements:
Write a 2-3 page paper discussing the following points relating to the case study patient
you selected:
● Include a definition of the actual disease or condition.
● The signs and symptoms of the disease.
● Identify the factors that could have caused or lead to the particular disease or
condition (Pathogenesis).
● Describe body system changes as a result of the disease process.
● Discuss the economic impact of the chronic disease.
● Include a title and reference page (these do not count towards the 2-3 page
requirement).
● The paper should be in APA format.
● At least two professional references (other than your text) must be included.

Present your paper as a professional review of the case study. Avoid conversational
format. Written work should be free of spelling, grammar, and APA errors. Points will be
deducted from your grade for writing, spelling, and grammatical errors at your
instructor’s discretion.
