ACTIVITY 3 Theoretical Evaluation and Application to Multicultural Education

ACTIVITY 3
Theoretical Evaluation and Application to Multicultural Education
(100 points)
While many of the theoretical frameworks in the fields of education, psychology, anthropology,
and sociology contain similarities, many of the facets of these frameworks can be quite different
from one another. The underlying foundation, the inherent paradigms, the objectives, goals, and
even foci of these various theories are varied in nature. For example, major social learning
theories, developed by Bandura and by Vygotsky, are clear illustrations of theories that have
similarities in their foundation but differences in their explanations. The wide array of theoretical
explanations and applications in the field of multicultural education provide for a vast
opportunity of discussion and evaluation.
This assignment requires significant critical thinking skills in the realm of theoretical application.
This Theoretical Evaluation and Application assignment provides the opportunity to:
1. Examine the history and purpose of multicultural education in society.
2. Evaluate the interaction between social context, management and organization of
culturally diverse classrooms, and the society at large.
3. Survey the different types of studies created, and evidence provided, by social scientists
(psychologists, sociologists, and anthropologists) seeking to shed light on multicultural
issues and their implications in special education.
4. Evaluate relevant theoretical perspectives that contribute to multicultural education
5. Examine knowledge, paradigms, and perspectives on the United States and the world to
deal effectively with both the challenges and opportunities of diversity in the realm of
education.
6. Analyze the concepts, paradigms, and explanations needed to become effective
practitioners in culturally, racially, and linguistically diverse educational settings.
7. Examine the existence of inequality in educational settings
For this assignment, please develop a research-based paper that includes:
1. An introductory overview of the two theoretical frameworks.
2. A detailed and thorough evaluation of two theoretical frameworks from any of the
following fields of study: education, psychology, sociology, and anthropology.
3. A detailed rationale for choosing these particular theoretical frameworks.
4. A detailed and thorough discussion of how these two frameworks could be applied
to explain and address a particular issue in multicultural education (this chosen
issue must be significantly different from your chosen issue in Activity 1).
5. At least 10 peer-reviewed references listed in APA 6th edition format. Some examples of theoretical frameworks (not an exhaustive list):
- Vygotsky’s Sociocultural Theory
- Bandura’s Social Learning Theory
- Chomskyan Language Theory
- Critical Race Theory
1 - Social Dominance Theory
