teacher outside of our professional capacity

Discussion 1

With the popularity of networks, such as ESPN, it is easy to turn on the television and be exposed to conversations tied to the qualities of good coaching. Even in our own lives, we have been exposed to coaching in some capacity, whether through little league, learning to ride a bike, or learning how to knit. Whenever we learn or teach a new skill, we participate in the act of coaching. What qualities of coaching are embedded in the learning process? Discuss the qualities that you believe make for a great coach. How can these qualities translate into your role as a teacher leader?

Discussion 2

All of us have served as a teacher outside of our professional capacity. Think of a time when you successfully taught someone a skill, before you were a professional educator, and discuss how you chose the strategies you implemented to help your learner master that skill. For example, have you ever taught someone how to ride a bike, shoot a basketball, or play an instrument? How did you determine what strategies were needed in order for your learner to master the skill, and how did you know when it was mastered?
