The Arrogant Beggar by Anzia Yezierska is a fictional story based in Progressive Era (1900 – 1920) New York City. In what ways does Yezierska’s novel shed light on the experiences of the “other” during thisperiod? More generally, to what extent does Adele’s story coincide with and/or differ from the experiences of other “others” from earlier time periods? (For the latter question, consider the experience of at least one other group in at least one earlier period).
