● a visual analysis
● a trend analysis

To successfully complete this assignment, you will:

1. Select an appropriate topic/subject of analysis, as defined by your instructor.
2. Research the issue and find appropriate resources and support to develop your analysis.
3. Address the opposing side’s views and refute those with logic and reason.

Purpose:  The second essay assignment requires you to write an argumentative analysis. In this essay you will build on the argumentative writing skills introduced in the position essay by applying these skills within the framework of analytical arguments. The emphasis on analysis allows you to continue honing the skill most required throughout your college career and beyond.

Source(s) Required:  Use a variety of sources that include journals, books, magazines, newspaper articles, or other reference materials.  Databases such as ProQuest, Opposing Viewpoints in Context and Infotrac are good sources. You can access the databases via the ENG 102 Research Guide.  Sources should be timely, unless you need to present a history of the topic as part of your argument

If you are struggling with identifying a target audience, you can consult Chapter 16 in Baker College Composition
