Topic Two - Ancient Jewish Kabbalah: Secret Wisdom of the Universe

Jewish mystical tradition takes the form of Kabbalah, ancient wisdom that persists even today in the lives of keepers of the mystical tradition. According to teachings of the Kabbalah Centre in New York City (2015), Kabbalah "describes the origin of Creation, the physical and spiritual laws of the universe, including human existence, and the journey of the soul." Jewish Kabbalah provides essential knowledge about the natural and spiritual dimensions of life, and equips its followers with critical tools for living full lives and making the world a better place.

 

Create a 5-minute oral visual/presentation that unveils ancient Jewish Kabbalah as the secret wisdom of the universe. If you do not complete your oral/visual presentation in class because you were absent or unprepared on the date of presentation, or for other reasons within your control, you will earn a two-point reduction in your overall score for the assignment.

 

Use APA formatting rules and guidelines to complete an oral/visual presentation in a format of your choice (e.g., Microsoft® PowerPoint®, Prezi®, online video productions, your own video production, photographs, relevant books and magazines, written and artistic hand-outs, etc.). However, you may not complete a scholarly paper for this assignment. 

 

Include in References a listing of all resources provided by this assignment and at least three other credible resources. In addition, document use of all visual imagery in References and in your oral/visual presentation. (Wikipedia and its family of resources are not credible for scholarly research.) Do not use more than 20 percent of non-original written materials to complete the assignment, and do not cut-and-paste written text into your oral/visual presentation or References list.

(1) The beginnings and evolution of Kabbalah, and its influence on Judaism today.

                                                                                             

(2) Two or three Kabbalah principles, and explain how each principle may be implemented in the lives of keepers of the tradition.

 

Provide visual imagery (e.g., music, dance, myths, folklore, maps, visual art, stories, film, etc.) to support your discussion. Document usage of visual imagery in your oral discussion and in References.
