Case Study Deliverable
Access the Case Studies Overview and Requirements page for detailed instructions and APA Style requirements for Case Study assignments.
Conduct in-depth research on the topic using, at least, two primary sources, outside of the course textbook, as references. Compose your Case Study assignment deliverable as a scholarly paper. Use Microsoft Word® to compose your data and include a Title Page, Header, in-text citations (as appropriate), and a Reference Table. The body of the paper should be two to three pages of double-spaced text in length.
Use APA Style to cite and reference any data "borrowed" from sources. Your composition needs to be grammatically sound and free of spelling errors. Use terminology from the reference sources and your textbook. Unless you are a subject matter expert on the topic, based on your degrees, certifications or “on the job training,” do not submit data obtained only from personal experience. Your document submission is due by the end of Module 4. Your submission data will be checked through Turnitin, a service that checks your work for potential plagiarism.
Case Study
In Chapter 3, you learned about big data analytics. In today's IT-driven world, businesses find themselves competing by utilizing many new technologies to lead or keep pace with the competition. Rolling out new information systems in the workplace is not restricted to the "standard" coat and tie Wall Street enterprise. The practice has spread throughout many industries and fields. Take the Pittsburgh PiratesTM organization in major league baseball, for example. Using up-to-date technologies such as virtual simulation batting helmets, mini-video cameras (i.e GoPro®), portable PC workstations, and iPad® mobile digital devices, both the upper management and coaching staff gather vast amounts of analytical data. This information ultimately is being utilized to improve the ERAs of the pitching staff, the batting averages of hitters, and the scouting, recruiting, and development of new players. According to the Pirates organization, as a direct result of the utilization of such data-gathering technologies, in the past few years, the team has jumped from the last place in their division to that of a playoff contender.
Written Assignment: Seek out an enterprise in any field that has recently benefited from the implementation of a newer Information System technology, as experienced by the Pittsburgh Pirates. Search Technology, Search Engine Optimization strategies, and Search Engine Marketing, as discussed in Chapter 6, have helped to bolster the finances of various enterprises seeking to compete at a higher level. Provide details on the type of Information System that was implemented and how it was used to affect changes in the organization. Contrast the data that managers had to work with prior to a financial uptick with that present after embracing the newer technology. What other technologies, offered by competing vendors, could have been utilized to affect a similar change? For example, for organizations with sales divisions, Microsoft offers a solution known as Dynamics CRM while a major player in that market is Salesforce.
