major shift in health care

INSTRUCTIONS:

A major shift in health care has occurred since approximately the 1960's. This shift has resulted in the massive and widespread centralization of medical practice into acute care facilities, and away from communities. Based on your course readings, ask yourself whether you feel that major hospitals should be the hub of health care in a community. If not, do you think communities are better served by meeting people's health care needs through a pyramid of specialized facilities or a network of smaller hospitals?

ADDITIONAL INSTRUCTIONS:

The APHI Board of Directors reflect on the dichotomy between specialty center-oriented care and the networks that go beyond the hospital walls to include much more of the system. Today, they are debating this issue, does the average community benefit from having a hospital as the hub for its health care needs? Once you have viewed the Unit 2 Board of Directors Meeting and heard the board members' views, discuss what you think about this issue.

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS:

Create a 1 page essay in APA Format. Use the assigned 2 sources for references. Be sure to include in-text citations. Make an effort to incorporate the views of the board members in your essay.
