Discussion Week 5: Personal Conflict

Discussion Week 5: Personal Conflict
Conflict comes from many sources in business. It may be hard to determine from
who, where or when the conflict may arise. Frequently the stakeholders become
in conflict with each other. Scarborough (2012) says that these conflicts and put
a business in jeopardy. The management must sort out the conflict to ensure
that no group becomes alienated. Many companies use the triple bottom line
that in addition to the traditional measure of profitability judges and scales the
conflict and risk that can arise from such conflict and create a measure of
profitability that is both ethical and socially responsible. (Scarborough, 2012, p.
715)
Chron states that there are four types of conflict that affect an organization:
1.
2.
3.
4. Responsibilities that are not clear.
Conflicts of interest
Short on resources
Interpersonal relationships These conflicts make for shortcomings when the wheel is not properly managed,
or a weakness becomes evident and stakeholders must be either consolidated,
disciplined, or eliminated. Each person in the management chain has to weigh
the conflict and minimize the risk and strengthen the organization. (Sullivan,
2017) References Scarborough, N. M. (2012). Effective SMALL BUSINESS management AN

Personal conflict happens when there is tension brought upon by various issues
such as, money, employees, and time (Javitch, 2010). The textbook says it best,
business partnerships are much like a marriage and with any relationship, conflict
will arise. What matters when conflict happens is how all parties involved resolve
the issues. To help minimize any negative outcomes from the conflict, a conflict
resolution plan should be implemented (Scarborough, 2012).
Some steps that can be taken to combat conflict are to realize conflict happens
and if handled appropriate can improve relationships. The first step is to
determine the cause of the conflict. From there, communication is key, both
parties should listen and provide constructive feedback. A list of actions to
address the issue should be compiled, from there the best actions should be
identified and put in place. Once the conflict is resolved, all parties involved
should learn from the experience and put procedures in place to keep the same
conflict from occurring again. (Javitch, 2010).
