Diabetes. Impaired insulin action

  1. Your grandmother was feeling very tired and thirsty for the last few weeks. You were worried about her, so you insisted she visit her doctor. Unfortunately, her doctor diagnosed her with Type 2 diabetes (early in the disease progression.)

    1. Her doctor tells her that she has impaired insulin action. Please describe what this means and the molecular explanation for this impairment.

    2. If her doctor were to prescribe drugs (besides insulin,) what would the drugs do? Please find one example of a real-life drug and explain how it works.
