The discussion will concentrate on Scenario C that talks about smoking and how the policy of hiring nonsmokers can be implemented.
The Three step process
Step 1: Â Working Out the Details
The process aimed at curbing hiring of nonsmokers will require all candidates selected to attend a mandatory cotinine test when undergoing their physical exam. This test detects any trace of different types of tobacco forms. Applicants that have been offered jobs and fail the test will have their positions rescinded. To ensure the procedure doesn’t look discriminatory, those already offered positions and willing to undergo rehab will be considered, and the facility will pay for the whole process.
The procedure is to be conducted by the organization’s physician. It is to be done during the physical exams. It is to be done at the primary gym located outside the company premises. The chief instrument will be the cotinine test tool. The management is planning to procure the set from online platforms; specifically in Amazon. The entity’s logistic team will handle the inbound logistics process, and the logistics department has up to date warehouses that will store the kit.
Step 2: Â Finding the Imperfection and Complications
The first analysis of fault will focus on clarity; the process is quite straightforward and precise as the routine requires reporting to the physician during the physicals. Nicotinate kits have been analyzed, and every measure will be taken to ensure safety, but the process itself is quite safe. The technique is awkward to use since it is a bit discriminatory as well as not being reasonable; it does not emphasize recruitment based on merit and capabilities. Implementing the policy is not costly since the total cost of acquiring a pack is less than $19 and the company already has trained personnel to handle it. It is comfortable and durable, and its aesthetic value doesn’t matter.
An alternative method to halting the hiring of smokers is probably setting up smoking zones for employees. This option will not require the company to spend a single dollar since the reorganization of some rooms may provide that space required hence costing less regarding human resources. It is also humane and non-discriminative.
Changes associated with change will include setting up funds in case some of the applicants agree to go on with the rehabilitation. It is a plan that is suitable for health care institutions; those not in this field will incur extra costs for outsourcing the services.
The main effect that comes with this technique is low morale among some staff; the company has many smokers since it has been in operation for a while. Some of the most productive employees may be smokers; they will be demoralized completely because of job insecurity. Companies are social structures hence some of their colleagues will try to protect them leading to cases of employee turnover.
Step 3: Â Making improvements
The process discussed doesn’t require any improvements as it is already perfect. The workers who smoke have been employed for quite some time now, and there doesn’t appear to be a problem.
The Two step process
Step 1: Â Deciding What Action Should Be Taken
The company is supposed to use a nicotinate to eliminate users of cigarettes and other related substance among its potential recruits. It is to be done during the physical tests, and it is a straightforward procedure.  It can be carried out by the company’s physician hence no training is required.  Business recruitment takes place within a single week; the test will be completed within the same period. The organization will finance the process by enlisting for a loan, and it will be publicized through notices, emails, and departmental meetings.
Step 2: Recognizing and Overcoming Difficulties
It does not pose any safety concern provided it is used appropriately. The instrument operates similarly to the alcoholic test meaning that some of its components are supposed to be replaced after using it on one individual. It is awkward to implement as it is very discriminative; some employers within the system will resist its implementation. It is a fast procedure meaning that delays will not be experienced. The plan isn’t that expensive to implement as the initial cost of the kit is manageable, and no specialized training will be conducted because of the availability of the company physician.
