Marketing Journal Instructions

Marketing concepts are mental frameworks, or tools, which can help firms with their marketing efforts. Your Marketing Journal will be an opportunity for you to better acquaint yourself with some key marketing concepts by relating them to a specific product.

Your journal will be made up of a series of posts - each marketing concept represented by its own post. The subject line of that post should include the associated chapter and name of the marketing concept.

Your Marketing Journal will be reviewed and general feedback provided twice during the term. Those review times are indicated on the syllabus. For the first review (at the end of Module 2), there should be 2 complete posts. For the second review (at the end of Module 4), there should be 2 more complete posts. Your fully completed Marketing Journal will be graded at the end of Module 8.

A specific post should introduce the marketing concept in general and then apply it specifically. Thus, your post should include the information below. Use the two headings for clarity. A rough example is provided at the end of these instructions.

(1) Marketing Concept Introduction

In your introduction, you should present the marketing concept, a mental tool, as you would a physical tool. Include both (A) a brief description, and (B) an explanation as to how it helps firms with their marketing. Your introduction should make the concept understandable to a person entirely unfamiliar with marketing. Include a figure if that would be helpful.

(2) Marketing Concept Application

In your application, you should relate the marketing concept to your specific product. Explain how the firm seems to be applying the concept in its marketing efforts. Your explanation should include (A) your thoughts, as well as (B) the reasoning that supports your thoughts. I understand that you are not top executives in the firm so you do not know the firm's exact motivation(s) but you can make educated guesses. Your thoughts and reasoning should be clearly linked. Include relevant images/examples if that would be helpful.

Below is a list of the posts for your Marketing Journal.
