An audio signal needs to be filtered into three bands before being amplified. These bands are defined as:
Bass <300Hz
300Hz<Mid Range < 4kHz
Treble > 4kHz
The following constraints apply to the circuit:
The filters should have a unity gain if possible
A minimum attenuation of 40dB is required in the stopband (More attenuation is acceptable)
The phase response is not important
In order to design these filters there are a number of topologies that can be used.
Using the Multiple feedback topology:-
a) Describe the characteristics and operation of this topology.
b)Design 3 filters to fulfill the above criteria. Some parameters of the design have been left open on purpose so that own decisions are taken. Produce a schematic of the filters and justify all the choices made.
c) Simulate the filters and observe if they achieve the criteria. Present relevant Bode plot and explain results.
d) Design a peak detector interfaced with a bargraph display to show a moving average value of the signal.
e) Devise a test or tests to test the salient characteristics of the filter.
