Prompt
Post a new discussion thread on the Week
7
discussion board with an
appropriate title and your response to the following promp
t.
The Future of Agriculture
Based on what you have read in this class so far (especially Ch. 8) what are
two
of the most important agricultural problems
occurring now, or that we will face
in the near future, according to what you have learned from the t
extbook? Use
your own judgment when selecting the two most important issues, but be sure
you base your answer on material in the textbook.
Explain
your answer. The more you relate the answer to human geography, the
better your grade will be. If you're not
sure how to do that, think about which
issues are included in chapter eight and
how
they are discussed. These issues
would be discussed differently in a class for a different subject. Historians might
talk about how famines shaped history or how agricultu
ral practices changed
over time. In an English class you might read the Grapes of Wrath and talk about
Steinbeck's imagery of agricultural landscapes. In your human geography
textbook, you can read about many different types of agriculture, their
distribut
ion over the planet, environmental issues impacting farming, people
who produce or consume agricultural products, concerns about pesticides,
the
geography of
alternat
ive fuels, concerns about how coupled human & natural
processes
are impacting the food sup
ply
(ex: irrigation, drought, and climate
change)
, whether we can feed the planet, how we can distribute food to
everyone (we currently
do
produce enough food to feed everyone, but we either
don't or can't always distribute it to those who need it most) and many more
issues.
Use
examples and information from the textbook
(especially Ch. 8).
Write at least
250 words
.
