For your information, Jesus Camp is a type of camp organized by many evangelical Christian denominations in the U.S. Children are brought to an isolated location for several days and exposed to the type of services you see in the video. Children are discouraged from bringing cell phones, Ipods, computers, or other things that might distract them from the focus of the camp, and are expected to stay for the duration. Visitors are generally not allowed in while the camp is in session.
Your name:Â ______________
1. Develop five paragraphs. In each paragraph, identify a different technique of resocialization used in marine boot camp, as depicted in the documentary Anybody’s Son Will Do (shown in class). Describe the intended purpose of each technique you have identified.Â
2. In a sixth paragraph, describe any similarities you see in the techniques used in Jesus Camp, compared to the marine corp. Then, highlight any important differences in the techniques of socialization/resocialization used by the two groups.
3. In a final paragraph, draw a conclusion: can you change a person’s nature? What techniques of resocialization do you think are particularly effective?Should techniques like this be allowed to be used in a free and open society, in your opinion? That is, does the end justify the means? Explain.
