EXPANDED ANALYSIS ASSIGNMENT (Due date is on your course syllabus!!)
Each student will complete one Expanded Analysis paper. The requirements for
this paper include: a minimum of one and a half to two full pages in length, single
spaced, with at least three outside resources used (one can be our textbook) and
cited using MLA format. Documents must be submitted in WORD format,
either .doc or .docx (NO word perfect or Microsoft works documents
please!)
This assignment will be worth up to 100 points toward the course grade. The
expanded analysis assignments are due by Sunday at midnight at the conclusion
of the deadline week – see syllabus. Late assignments will be penalized 10
points for each day that they are late. Late assignments will not be
accepted after one week beyond the original due date.
Please choose ONE of the following topics for your expanded analysis paper:
1. Evaluate the following statement made by Richard Branson, CEO of Virgin
Airways: "I think that anybody running any company must realize that the
most important asset he has is his people. Do you agree? Why? Or why
not? Use concepts from our course discussions AND our textbook to
complete your analysis.
2. Success leads to success……..or does it? Microsoft’s incredible track record
in the 1990s made it a highly attractive place to work. Now, companies like
Apple Computer, Google, Whole Foods and others have their pick among
the best and brightest job applicants. Research Fortune Magazine’s most
recent list of the “100 Best Companies to Work For” at Fortune Magazine’s
website. (It’s very easy to find on your own by using the search function at
www.fortune.com) Identify the key factors associated with these companies
and discuss the core cultural values you think are common to these top
firms. Be sure to discuss this in the context of the organizational culture.
Use concepts from our class discussions and textbook, plus outside
research, to complete your analysis.
Remember to use a combination of course readings, video case examples, and
outside research in developing your essay. Please do NOT base your paper on
opinion only! YOUR SOURCES SHOULD BE CITED PROPERLY USING MLA
FORMAT.
