Self awareness

Does self knowledge inhibit personal improvement?

Discussing the question base on personal skill and statement below. (At least 300 words)

The book says that there is considerable evidence that individuals that are more aware are more healthy and

perform better as managers. Self awareness makes individuals better leaders and more productive at work.  On the

other hand the argument can be said for the opposite.  On the other hand, self-knowledge may inhibit personal

improvement rather than facilitate it. The reason is that individuals frequently evade personal growth and new self-

knowledge. They resist acquiring additional information in order to protect their self-esteem or self-respect. If they

acquire new knowledge about themselves, there is always the possibility that it will be negative or that it will lead to

feelings of inferiority, weakness, evilness, or shame. An example is when someone is an expert on certain subject

matters at work they do not want to learn new things because they will no longer be known an expert anymore. "The

more you know the less you know" is a phrase that comes to mind. We all want to learn new things and be challenged

but I think that many people feel comfortable being where they are in work and in life.
