Problem Statement:

Will the constantly growing function of IT in organizations breed the need for adjustments to traditional curriculums of higher education to ensure computer literacy is thorough and complete? Furthermore, what core functions of IT would need to be added to the undergraduate curriculum to ensure a quality program and candidate?

What are/were the most significant challenges you faced in collecting data? In hindsight, what might you have done to minimize this challenge?

My data collection relied heavily on surveys and input from the resources I reached out to. However, to save time and be respectful to my peers I e-mailed the survey. What I quickly found out was that in order to receive the quality input in needed, I had to articulate my questions a bit better. I also found myself following up in person a couple of times. In the end, I even took a few resources out to lunch so I could pick their brain a bit and get good quality responses.

Oddly enough, as I dug deeper and deeper into the minds of my selected peers, I kept finding gaps and clarifications I will need to make in my paper. In the beginning, I simply just wanted to defend my statement that IT needs to be a component of a core undergraduate curriculum. Now, I have received feedback about the types of courses that resources felt they would have benefitted from when they were in school. I do feel that, overall, many of the resources I have spoke to agree that they lacked the IT knowledge to make themselves successful in today’s workforce and that this gap caused a huge learning curve for them at the beginning.

I look forward to wrapping up my data collection with the rest of my peers I reached out too. I then hope to find a few unique ways I can derive some key data from and be able to quantify my initial statements defense.
