role or department of a business enterprise.

Discussion Forum 1 Alex

Project Focus:

IT used to be a supportive role or department of a business enterprise.  Its budget was small and it typically was only there to keep organizations happy with their PC needs.  Today, IT is at the forefront of every enterprise level business function.  Furthermore, IT has bled into every function of businesses today.  For this reason, resources in every business function are realizing a need for an IT knowledge foundation in order to be successful in their roles.  Should educational institutions take heed of this movement or is this simply a training function on the job?  One thing is for sure; IT has been embedded itself in every business function as a staple for executing their processes.

Problem Statement:

Will the constantly growing function of IT in organizations breed the need for adjustments to traditional curriculums of higher education to ensure computer literacy is thorough and complete?

Hi Alex,

You make very good points in your post, especially with IT taking the forefront and branching out into every function of businesses today.  I went to a conference for work a few weeks ago, it was for eCommerce business, there was a lot of information on what business will need to do to keep up in the future.  Very interesting research topic!
