Discussion 1

Until recently, most scientists have been focusing on negative aspects of aging. However, there is a  growing number of older people who are functioning very well. They are "aging successfully".
Successful aging means physical, mental and social well-being as we get older.Â
The level of importance of the last factor-social well- being has increased. Scientists have also found  that people who have been "happier" throughout their lives, live longer. Why?

Discussion 2
Â
Ageism is discrimination of people based on age. While this term can be used to describe discrimination against adolescents and children, the term is mainly used in relation to older people. Age -based stereotyping usually involves older people being pitied, marginalized, or patronized.Â
Do you think that the discrimination of people based on age (ageism) exist in the US?
Â
Have you or someone you  know suffered from age discrimination?Â
