Personal Marketing Plan

Personal Marketing Plan

Mission Statement:

I am committed to bringing an unrivaled sense of pride, passion, and positive energy to my environment. It is through this commitment that I believe that I can become an elite and respected asset in the business world.

Desired Job:

My ambition is to obtain a Junior Marketing Associate position. The responsibilities for this job include Sales/business development, market research, customer/client presentations, administrative tasks, territory management.

Target Markets:

Generally speaking, I would prefer to find employment in a smaller to mid-sized company, with a progressive leaning corporate culture, at a direct marketing/advertising firm. I chose these characteristics because I believe they fall in line with my personality. A midsized company will allow me to feel the impact I make, a progressive culture matches my desire for a strong work to life balance, and a direct marketing/advertising firm will ensure I can allow my creative passion to be maximized. Some firms that match my desired characteristics are R&R business consultants, Adroll, Crush media group, and Netflix.

Positioning Statement:

Possessing a deep and creative advertising mind, in combination with obvious top shelf communication skill, I can immediately step into a firm and contribute. My positive personality and Infectious motivation, will create a ripple effect throughout my work environment, this will ensure that my impact reaches beyond tangible results.

Marketing Mix:

a. Product

*Marketing Specialist of Student Painters: In this position I was entrusted to work with the head of the company to handle the Advertising and Marketing aspects of the company. This job gave me experience in a variety of different ways. Being a small company I did have to dirty work such as going door to door, posting flyers and yard signs, and personal selling. However I was also given a budget and the opportunity to make some big picture decisions, such as contacting real estate agency’s for potential leads, and constructing an online and social media presence for the company. Through this employment I gained experience directly applicable to my future career.

*Sales Clerk at Walt’s Health Foods: For two years during summers I was employed at Walt’s Health Foods. Often in this position I was trusted to run the store independently which forced me to deal with situations I had not dealt with before with little direction given from my supervisor. This position also exposed me to personal selling, often I could persuade customers to purchase products they had previously had no interest in. Working at this position gave me experience in independent thinking and sales.

*Marketing Internship with Striker: The summer before my final year of college I was fortunate enough to get an internship with Striker. This was an incredible opportunity as they offer experience for not only my major but a broader understanding of the professional business environment in general. In addition to learning how to interact in a business setting, I was also able to make connections that can lead to great opportunities and information in the future.

*High School Football Coach at Columbia Central: For three years after I graduated high school I was a paid coach with Columbia Central. While this job was certainly not that of a business environment I did gain background in unique areas. I learned how to lead subordinates that were very close to me in age, I also learned when to be firm and direct compared to when to be understanding and lenient, most importantly however I gained the experience in motivation.

*Member of Sales business and marketing association: With a major in marketing and a minor in Advertising and Promotion, I felt it necessary to gain experience in sales to be more well rounded. My final year of college I joined the SBMA, This allowed me to compete in sales competitions and earn first hand sales involvement. Additionally it gave me countless networking opportunities that I can use as I enter the business world.

b. Promotion

Personal Website: A unique way to market myself to potential employers will be to create a website that will highlight my skills, goals, and experiences. The website will be professionally constructed and links will be sent to desired future employers. This can cost roughly four thousand dollars, but it would produce a top of the line website. I believe this would be successful because it would be convenient for employers, and ensure to them commitment on my part.

Reference contact: While having strong references on a resume is certainly helpful, it is much more impressive if they personally contact my potential employers and share their positive experience working with me. The cost of this tactic would cost no money, but perhaps a favor to my former employer. I believe this would be an effective technique because it proves to hiring firms that my past employers were not only happy with my work, but willing to go above and beyond.

Personally Contacting hiring agent: After submitting a resume I plan on physically going to the company, and speaking with the employee in charge of hiring, and asking if there is anything I can do to help improve the odds of being selected. This tactic will cost no actual money, but simply time. I believe this approach would be very effective, because it adds a personal touch, puts a face with the resume, and shows commitment.

Creating a theatrical trailer version of my resume: I will create an entreating yet professional theatrical version of my accomplishments, I will make this trailer available online to all companies, but it will be sent to every company I apply to. Having a background in video production, this tactic will cost no money, just a significant time commitment. I believe this will be effective because it demonstrates the creativity necessary for my potential position, and creates a personal connection.

c. Place

After graduating from WMU, my only geographical limitations are to stay in the Great Lakes region, this will allow me options of several cities while keeping my location close to Michigan. The Direct channels I plan to use are the WMU job fair and A pain letter to my potential hiring agent. The indirect channels I plan to use are personal connections to high management at Target and family ties to Edward Jones.

d. Price

The average salary in the Great Lakes region for an entry level Marketing Associate is 42,000, in most cases salary will go up with time due to experience and likely promotions.

Execution Plan

I have a detailed execution plan of how to get from where I currently am to where I need to be. In the Summer of 2016: Take Statistics and Finite at Jackson College, to gain entry to the WMU business college, Excel as a Marketing specialist for student painters. In the Fall of 2016: Take 15 credits at WMU, earn above a 3.5 GPA, join the SBMA, go to a several job fairs. In the Spring of 2017: Take 15 credits at WMU, earn a 4.0 GPA, meet with an advisor to ensure my time graduation is on track.  Summer of 2017: Internship with Striker. Fall of 2017: Finish remaining classes at WMU with a 4.0 GPA, make sure employment is lined up for after the semester ends, Graduate with a major in Marketing and a minor in Advertising and Promotion, begin my career in Marketing.
