Discussion Post

Reflect on the speakers' motives and on your own perception of what the talks offer.  How does Kay's poetry connect to the stories and poems you read last week?(An overall view) Why do you think the writers and Kay choose less conventional forms to explore issues of gender and how cultural stories and norms shape gender?

Do you agree with Smith's argument that "silence is residue of fear"? Can you connect this assertion with writers, such as Thomas King?  Domenech argues that poetry "frees the soul". Do you think any creative writing, including non-fiction writing like your personal essays, can do this? Can writing liberate us?

Share your thoughts on a few of these prompts in discussion format not an essay (NO need for conclusion or introduction)

Response must be about 400 words.
