I am 18 years old So my father works outside Canada and I will be studying in Canada for University. My father is paying for my university tuition. I am a Canadian citizen and I plan on purchasing my first car. My father does not want to pay taxes as he works outside the country. But he currently has 2 houses under property management. I don't know if he pays taxes for those. My father listed me as a dependent, as he will send me money monthly. He tells me that I cannot own a car as he will have to pay taxes. I really don't get this whole dependency thing. But I have part time job so I am able to pay for insurance and gas. Will my dad be paying any taxes if i own a car even though I am a dependent and 18 years of age? Thanks
