I am 27 years old and married. My husband and I are expecting our first baby next summer. Since starting to work around age 18 I have always worked in jobs where taxes came out of my pay cheques. My husband has a full time job that also takes taxes out of his pay cheques. I am not planning to return to my current job after maternity leave but do plan to clean houses for people. It would work well because I could do it on evenings and weekends when my husband could take care of the baby. I currently do this on the side and get paid under the table making about $250 per month. I would like to eventually clean more houses possibly making between $500 and $1000 per month. If I continue to get paid under the table for these jobs what are the chances that I could get in trouble for not paying taxes on this income and would the consequences be that bad?
