cleaning service

i have a cleaning service and i had some ladys working with me i been knowing these lady for years but it got late so i told them we can finish the next day but ill pay yall today but yall come back to finish the work and they agree so i pay them as if they complete the whole job. and the next day they did come back,so i called them and ask why they didnt come back and they gave some dumb reason so i told them that i was putting a stop payment on the check.. later to find out that they cashed the checks and now the stores want me to pay the money back. so who suppose to pay the money back and what can happen???????
