a) Estimate the effort and schedule for the following software project and account for adapted code.

SIZE: new size=260,000 SLOC, adapted code size=75,000 SLOC

SCALE DRIVERS: all rated at nominal.

COST DRIVERS: schedule compression ratio = 75%, the effect of a software failure is a large equipment loss, the average applications experience = 6 years, the platform operating system is expected to have a major change once per year, there is a comprehensive toolset fully integrated across all activities, and all other cost drivers are nominal.

For the modified code:

  • 40 out of 100 design modules were replaced; all others were untouched
  • 30 KSLOCS out of the total 75 KSLOCS of code were modified
  • The integration of the modified code is estimated to be 2/3 of the effort compared to if it was all new
  • To understand the software it is described as:
