Engineering Computer Center

1. Standard University's Engineering Computer Center (ECC) has recently upgraded its computer system. The added computer speed and storage have brought saving by reducing its software projects' TIME and STOR cost driver ratings to nominal. Platform Volatility (PVOL) has increased to High, and the ratings for Platform Experience (PLEX) and Tool Support(TOOL)have been reduced to Very Low. ACAP, PCAP, PCON , and APEX all have High ratings. All the remaining cost driver multipliers have Nominal ratings.

The average ECC software project develops 40 KSLOC of equivalent source code when adjusted for reuse. Its scale factors are Nominal.

Perform a manual COCOMO II effort estimate for the average ECC project as described above. Show your intermediate calculations.

2. XYZ company is contemplating to develop a software component from scratch with an estimated size of 40 K SLOC or to use a 40 KSLOC reusable component with the following reuse parameters:

  • DM = 40
  • CM = 50
  • IM = 100
  • SU = 50
  • UNFM = 1.0
  • AA = 5
  1. For this reusable component, compute its equivalent SLOC (ESLOC).
  2. What is the right decision for XYZ company and explain why?.
