Assignment: [Group Project] HTML, JavaScript and PHP Website
In today’s Internet-based society, it is imperative that a company have its own Web site. As was noted last week, Week 3 marks the beginning of this module’s group project: the development of a fictitious business’s Web site that includes HTML, JavaScript and PHP. This week also marks your first deliverable for this project, which is centred on HTML and CSS.
Regardless of the fictitious business your group has chosen, your Web site must include the following HTML pages:
· A home page
· An About page
· A Products or Services page(s)
· A Contact page
Each group member must contribute an equal amount of work to the Web site. As such, your submission must contain a table denoting the responsibilities of each member. An example follows:
|
Web Site Page |
Who Is Responsible |
|
Home Page |
Group member 1 |
|
About Page |
Group member 2 |
|
Product Page1 |
None assigned |
|
Product Page 2 |
None assigned |
|
Service Page 1 |
Group member 3 |
|
Service Page 2 |
None assigned |
|
Contact Page |
Group member 4 |
In addition to this table, each member of the group must submit an individual statement describing in detail what he or she contributed to the group’s HTML pages. This statement needs to include the names of files or sections of code within a file for which you were solely responsible. It must also include the Web address of files that are visible on your group’s Web server space. A response such as ‘It was basically a joint effort’ is not acceptable. You should be able to identify at least one page on the group Web site that is completely your own work.
You must also provide evidence that you made a worthwhile contribution and displayed teamwork skills. You will be graded according to your individual contribution. You must also note, in your individual statement, not only the code you individually wrote, but also where you helped other group members (or displayed other teamwork skills). Credit will be given where appropriate. A satisfactory individual statement will normally be no less than one full sheet of A4. Moreover, you will be given additional credit for evidence of teamwork in the Group Discussion Board. That said, this is not a team programming exercise. The normal rules about collusion apply. Examples of legitimate team-working include advice to group members about a specific problem, participation in discussions about the division of labour in the group and discussions about the general theme and structure of the group Web site.
Note: Your Instructor should have given your group usernames and passwords to access your Web space and a MySQL database on the Laureate server. The tutorials in Week 2 will guide you. These will help you upload files to your Web space using the FTP software FileZilla and create tables and records in your database with MySQL Workbench. The tutorials advise you how to download the necessary software. You should download this software as a matter of urgency if you have not done so already.
Later in the module, when you learn about server-side programming with PHP, you will use the NetBeans IDE’s built-in FTP service to work against the Laureate Web server directly. NetBeans will automatically do the FTP transfer for you, so you do not have to transfer the files yourself.
To prepare for this Assignment:
· Download and install an editor from which to develop your HTML pages. Appropriate editors include W3C Validator and CSS Validator.
· Download and install an FTP client such as FileZilla.
To complete this Assignment:
Create a group Web site for a fictitious business using HTML with CSS applied. Your group Web site must contain the following Webpages:
· A home page
· An About page
· A Products or Services page(s)
· A Contact page
Each group member should submit a single Word document as their deliverable that contains the URL to the group Web site on the Web server space. It should also include the noted table of contribution as well as all of the group members’ individual statements of work. Each of these statements must explain how the member completed his or her contribution to the project and should reflect the group project experience. As for each group member’s page(s), they must include, as a minimum requirement, the following features:
· One or more forms that include text boxes and either radio buttons or checkboxes
· Menu(s) (not within a form) associated with links to different pages
· The use of tags and evidence of the use of the CSS box model
· Class selectors
· An external CSS file or files containing detailed formatting instructions
Files need not include JavaScript, but you are welcome to go beyond the requirements in your use of HTML and CSS.
