Social Network

I feel that companies should establish and implement policies regarding the firm’s position on the use of social media. These policies should include discouraging employees from friending each other or their clients, restricting any sharing of any company information on their social media and also prohibiting the use of social media on company computers. Employees should also comply with the rules and regulations set by their employers in order to maintain a respectful environment in protecting the company’s’ privacy as well as maintaining security within the company. This issue of monitoring is not only legal but also practical. Many similar cases, including e-mail monitoring have not been found to be unlawful regardless of whether employees knew about the monitoring or whether policies were established. I think it all comes down to not using work computer for personal use because some of the files or programs or even the social media sites may be a threat to the company. In short, there is no statutory right to privacy afforded to employees regarding their employment-related electronic communications.
