First, please read the attached case study titled

First, please read the attached case study titled "Understanding Cross Cultural Communication in the Business Sector of South Korea: Case study for Foreign Staff in Korean Chaebols." Make notes of key points in the paper.

Secondly, you should address the following key questions in your final paper.

  • In one page, summarize the key issues raised in the paper, both from the point of view of the Korean companies and the foreign expatriates.

Research South Korea to identify one or two differences between South Korea and the US in terms of demographics, political, legal, and technological environment, etc. There are many research tools available online (such as, Hofstede's Cultural Dimensions, CIA-World Fact Book, World Bank's doingbusiness.org, PBS Country Report) to help you learn about South Korea. You can use other Internet-based resources as well.

Create a table for comparing and contrasting both South Korea and the U.S. in terms of Hofstede's cultural dimensions. What are some of the broad differences and similarities as observed from the table?

  • If you are hired as a consultant for an American company sending five American employees to S. Korea on a three year assignment to work as managers in their Seoul-based subsidiary, what advice would you offer them so that their three-year mission is successful? Two of these expatriates are women. Similarly, what advice would you offer to five S. Koreans who are being brought to the U.S. headquarters to gain critical knowledge so that they will be able to manage any cross cultural communication issues while in the U.S.? Keep in mind and mention the cross cultural challenges the S. Koreans are likely to face in the U.S. Two of these expatriates are women.

  •  Being able to speak a little bit of Korean is important for non-Koreans while they are in S. Korea. Learn six common greetings in the Korean language and include them in your paper.
