As you consider the process involving 10 steps, what are some examples of where error or delayed reimbursement could occur because of a "hiccup" in one of these steps? For example, if the registrar or medical biller did not confirm financial responsibility of the patient encounter, the patient could receive the bill, which delays the process if the patient indeed has insurance. If the patient received new insurance or a new type of coverage, this would affect the timeframe of reimbursement, as well, as denials would occur, or perhaps mistakes to payments or adjustments. This could quite frankly affect if the patient could even be seen, such as doctor's accepting an insurance carrier, but not a particular type, such as an HMO.
