Population with high risk of MRSA infection are those with surgical wound. The medical surgical unit personnel providing care to the patient with MRSA must worn all the time an appropriate PPE before entering the MRSA room. PPE is required if the healthcare workers just observing and does not have intention to touch the patient.
MRSA spreads by contact. Healthcare workers are the main source of spreading infection from one to another patient because they are in contact with more than one patients. Wearing Personal Protective Equipment correctly and hand washing are the major method of prevention of spreading MRSA infection in the unit. The writer unit as existing policy in infection and control stated that all healthcare workers must exercise routine practice of hand hygiene and wear the required PPE appropriate for the task. The policy does not emphasize the importance of wearing PPE all the time before entering the room even if the healthcare provider is not touching the patient.

She stated that she did not touch the patient. She was in the room just for less than twenty minutes. Then went to the next patient did not have infection of MRSA infection. The unit is medical surgical unit has the high-risk population of MRSA infection such as surgical wound patient, elderly with chronic disease and low immunity, most the patient has intravenous lines. MRSA infection is very dangerous pathogen if enter the body via any open wound, it can cause infection that will result to long term hospitalization, rehospitalization, or death.
