UNIX script

Need help with writing UNIX script for assignment

Assignment 03 is about UNIX shell scripts. To complete this assignment:

  1. Log into our course UNIX server.
  2. Create a directory ~/assignments/assignment03
  3. Create an executable shell script ~/assignments/assignment03/assignment03.sh

Your shell script should do three things:

  1. Copy the file /home/bryan/data/assignment03.data to the current working directory
  2. Extract the amino-acid lines (indicated by "AA") from the file to a new file ./assignment03.aa
  3. Extract the DNA lines (indicated by "DNA") from the file to a new file ./assignment03.dna

You (or I) should be able to run your script by typing the following at the UNIX command prompt:

./assignment03.sh

and all 3 required actions should be performed, resulting in 3 new files in the current working directory:

  1. assignment03.data (which is a copy of /home/bryan/data/assignment03.data)
  2. assignment03.aa (all the amino-acid lines in the .data file)
  3. assignment03.dna (all the DNA lines in the .data file)

To check your work, I've created example 'correct output' files:

/home/bryan/data/assignment03.aa.correctout

/home/bryan/data/assignment03.dna.correctout

You can test your output against this output using the 'diff test'
