1. The population of geriatric patients is increasing as baby boomers age.  Research how many patients will have vision or hearing disorders or impairments in the next few years. For example, has the number of glaucoma cases increased? How many hearing aids are sold annually? Find five statistics relating to vision and hearing impairment in the geriatric population.  For each statistic identify three patient care techniques a MA can provide a patient.

2. Consider one of the common disorders of the special senses. Describe the disorder and the daily impacts of the disorder.

How can you as the medical assistant support the patient in their everyday lives and in the medical office? ( This can be answered with at least 4 to 5 sentences.) 

3. Vision and hearing disorders can have an effect on lifespan development. Research the impacts of hearing or vision illnesses or disorders on lifespan development. Does the stage of development significantly alter the impact of the disorder on quality of life? Write a one page, general formatted paper on your findings and cite your sources.
