The main objective of the report is to provide the OPNET simulation to integrate the smart antenna system with mobile ad hoc networks. Mobile ad hoc networks (MANET’s) are self-configurable and infrastructure less networks. MANETEs are referred as packet radio during the early 1970’s and later on the actual role in internet and IP protocol came into existence. The main advantage with MANET’s is that they can be easily configured and even the risk of infrastructure maintenance is very low when compared to other networks. MANETs can be categorized into wireless networks, where there are number devices and each device acts as both source and destination as well. There are few limitations with MANETs, which include lower communication range, reduced efficiency and few restrictions over the devices count that should be included over a particular network. Another key challenge over MANETs is that routing is complex in nature and also the routing ahead is high due to the frequent updates from the devices. Routing protocols for MANETs can be categorized into five different types which include proactive, reactive, hybrid, location aware and multipath.
