Databases have a significant role across the computing world these days and database is the term that is used widely across different aspects with respect to information technology. Among the key database concepts, temporal database has a great attention and almost 1600 research papers are submitted against the concept of temporal databases in past 20 years and there is lot of research done towards the temporal database concept. In general temporal database are which deal with the time constrained data and handles the time sensitive data across the database. Temporal database can be used to handle the time sensitive information and maintains the track of the time changing data as per the customer requirements. All the changes that occur towards time across a database are completely analyzed and traced using a temporal database. In general a temporal database can exhibit the need for unifying concepts to be developed across the database to handle the time related information. The actual temporal concepts were introduced in the very early days of the database development and still then there is no proper research solutions proposed in developing and programming the temporal concepts. Temporal database has a wide range of applications across the real world and these applications mainly deals with the time sensitive information related to their stakeholder and the primary application are discussed as below
A health care application mainly holds time varying information related to the patients. In general patient history is maintained across these temporal databases as the history of the patients is varied against the time constraints. If a patient is admitted in the hospital, the initial observations related to the patients are tracked in the database and the condition of the patients against the time period is also maintained across the database. A normal database does not provide the required information related to the patients against the time frame and the hospital administrators or doctors can’t track the information with respect to the physical and mental conditions of the patient and the corresponding improvements against time if normal database concepts are used. Insurance applications can also be considered as the best example for the temporal database concepts and in general the insurance companies maintain the history of their key attributes like the customer’s history and the accidents history. The required claims can be done against the insurance policies related to the accidents and the corresponding history of the accidents. Finance applications also use the concepts of the temporal databases, where the history of the stock information should be maintained. In general the stock information is time sensitive and requires ample effort to track the changes in the stock as per the time across the market and thus the usage of temporal database is really important. Banking applications has a wide range of time sensitive and accounting information and needs a perfect temporal database implementation against the customer financial transactions. Few applications related to the personal management also need the help of temporal concepts and most of the organizations need these temporal databases to track the performance of the employees in different time aspects like annually and quarterly. Thus there is wide range of application which uses the concepts of the temporal database
