I need help please. Mrs. Glenda Schwab, 74 years old, was diagnosed with colon cancer two years ago. Soon after, she had a hemicolectomy and creation of an ostomy in the left lower quadrant. Due to severe rheumatoid arthritis and deteriorating health, Mrs. Schwab was admitted to a long term care facility. Today, Mrs. Schwab is requesting that her colostomy bag be changed. She needs an AM dose of Heparin due to poor mobility. You have been assigned to care for Glenda Schwab. Complete any procedures ordered by the physician. You have 30 minutes to complete the assigned duties. You will be given an additional 30 minutes to document your assessments, the nursing care provided, and your reflections. Student Expectations • Review the Kardex for pertinent information. • Complete an appropriate (focused) assessment of the client. • Administer required medication safely. • Change client’s colostomy bag. • Demonstrate organization in care.
