What factors would affect the internal validity of your study?

The question is: 

Describe a quantitative study to address an issue from your practice setting or one of the nursing problems you identified in Ironridge or Summerville scenarios. (Remember you can use this topic and quantitative research article as part of your Research Summary Table assignment). What would be your research question? How will you select your sample to make sure that your study has external validity? What factors would affect the internal validity of your study?

My answer so far is:

The aim of my quantitative study is to examine whether hourly rounding by nursing and ancillary staff can help avoid patient falls while in the hospital. The research question for the study is: Does hourly rounding by medical staff assist in preventing patient falls while in the hospital?

I need help with the last 2 questions: 

How will you select your sample to make sure that your study has external validity? What factors would affect the internal validity of your study?
