2. The nurse enters the patient’s room at 7:00 AM, speaking in a loud voice and opening all shades to let in sunlight. In report he was informed that the patient is of Hispanic descent and that the man has been very quiet, refusing to speak with the staff. The nurse believes that the sunlight and loud tone will get the patients attention and make him open up and talk to the staff. He sits on the edge of the bed, looks directly in the patients eyes, and begins to ask personal questions about the man’s family. The nurse believes this questioning will help the man relax around him, because he has taken an interest in the patient’s personal life.
