An 8-year-old child was brought to the Emergency Department yesterday morning with severe abdominal pain that had been ongoing for 2 days. The parents reached the point where no one could adequately deal with the pain. The father stated "Something had to to be done!"
The child was diagnosed with acute appendicitis and an emergency appendectomy was performed.
This morning the child developed a fever, sour throat, headaches, chills and a rapid heart rate. Laboratory results have confirmed that the child has Scarlet Fever.
