Bells and whistles” is a phrase that is often used to mean fancy additional accessories or features that look good but add little real value. HOWEVER, IN TERMS OF ALARMS IN THE HEALTHCARE SETTING, IT BECOMES A PROBLEM IF WE TAKE THIS VIEW. Alarm fatigue can be a major challenge. What are the features that are built into our monitoring equipment that improve safety? We have all worked with alarms at some point in our careers, but alarms are not the only noisy distractors we hear.
