Unit 5: Neurological and Skin
When you are performing an examination on your patient it is known as Objective data. It is important for you to be comfortable with the normal in order to know what is abnormal. Practice the skills of inspection, palpation and auscultation a few times during the week for at least 2 hours in order to improve your skills. If there is a cranial nerve to be assessed please make sure you include it. Equipment needed: stethoscope, small ruler (marked in centimeters), penlight, gloves, magnifying glass, tongue blade, cotton swab, cotton ball, tuning fork (128 Hz or 258 Hz), percussion hammer, and familiar aromatic substances (ex. Peppermint, coffee, vanilla)
