Application: Use of critical angle to measure permittivity. A plane electromagnetic wave is incident on the surface of a dielectric at 36° from within the dielectric, at the interface between the dielectric and free space. Calculate the permittivity of the dielectric if at this angle there is total reflection from the surface. Assume the dielectric has permeability of free space.
