Your perspective for this case study is early in 2004. Canyon Ranch is a premier spa, founded in 1979. The organization is doing well, but is faced with increasing competition while still growing. You are a consultant brought in to help advise on how to proceed. Your audience for this case study is the Zuckermanns, founders of Canyon Ranch. Write 5-6 pages:
Understanding the spa industry, the customers, and the services offered by Canyon Ranch helps. You donAc€?ct need to know what an ayurvedic treatment is, but keep in mind that these customers travel a long distance to receive very pricey treatments and services.
A key aspect of Canyon Ranch is how they differentiate themselves from their competition. Your approaches should not lose that, though they might expand on it.
How well is the existing IT system serving their needs? What new information or services would be nice to have from the system?
Are improvements in the guest booking process needed? How does (or could) the IT system relate to the problem of staffing program coordinators?
So this case study is much more customer- and process-focused. As usual, define decision criteria, develop several alternative solutions, and pick the best to recommend.
