[Effect of Additive Noise on OFDM] Consider the OFDM system described in Illustrative Problem 8 .2. Suppose the IDFT samples given by (8.2.2) of the transmitted signal are corrupted by additive Gaussian noise having zero mean and variance σ2 . Hence, the received signal samples are represented as
![]()
where Bn is the noise component. Compute the DFT of the sequence {rn} and then obtain the estimates of the received symbols {Xk} when the noise variance is σ2 = l, 2, and 4. For each value of σ2 , detect the sequence Xk and, thus, obtain the output symbols {Xd from the detector. Comment on the accuracy of the detected symbols.
