I have worked at multiple commercial and government locations that have a different network structures at each location. The assumption is the company requires a new network structure design due to the need for the re-engineering to obtain a total systems approach.
Â
The company will be undergoing an information technology systems re-engineering to obtain a total systems approach, including improving the network infrastructure for the company. A decision will need to be made promptly if the network will be restructured as decentralized, centralized, or co-located. Any changes to the network structure will need to reduce the equipment footprint while providing additional performance and security.
Large global organizations, such as the company, face a degree of network challenges with aging equipment and inconsistent network structure that impedes the quality of the communication systems and overall business operations for their facilities. With multiple locations serving over 250,000 associates across the globe at plants and office in every country, the network structures have not been maintained to a proper standard, making it difficult to identify the origin of a network issue. These problems can lead to slow network connectivity or a total site outage. This could potentially utilize a significant amount of time and resources for network administrators to correct the issues with different structures at each location. Additionally, the inconsistent design prevents the information technology division from implementing a total network change effectively.
There is a need to examine if a centralized enterprise network solution will correct the inefficiencies for the network structure. This study will examine the effects on a global wide area network when creating an enterprise solution. The information provided in this study can assist businesses an overview on preparing an enterprise network restructure.
