Swamp Road

You have been asked to estimate a project on Swamp Road. Swamp Road is prone to Spring flooding causing detours and extra work and cost for Maintenance. Upon a field review, you have determined that the existing 24” culvert pipe has collapsed and will need to be replaced. To prevent erosion, you will rip-rap the in-slope area of the pipe. The area to rock is 78’ long, 23’ wide and 18” deep on each side of the roadway. To prevent future flooding, you will need to raise the road 2.5’ for 456’with 3.5” of Hot Mix Asphalt placed on the road afterwards. The Hot Mix Asphalt has a maximum density of 0.055tons/SY/in. The finished paved roadway width is 24’ wide with 1:3 in-slopes down to the pipe invert grade that is 15 below the centerline of the existing roadway.

Determine the quantities needed for this project? Please show all your work.

1.Feet of 24” culvert pipe?

2.Cubic yards of gravel?

3.Tons of Hot Mix Asphalt?

4.Cubic yards of rip-rap to rock the slope?

5.Please provide a sketch of the proposed cross section.
