Some people have mentioned that one reason why backups or recovery may be needed is human error. This could occur by the firm's employee or your vendor! This isn't a case where recovery was needed, but it's a Verizon data breach due to a vendor who accidentally made the data public and didn't resolve the issue until a week after it was flagged due to a miscommunication and an employee on vacation. 

When choosing a backup and recovery firm, make sure they can deliver on your requirements! Like car insurance, you don't want to have to use them but it's important to know you're fully covered.
